The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has prepared a Draft Central Valley Flood System Conservation Strategy (Conservation Strategy) for public review and comment. The Conservation Strategy is an integral component of the 2017 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP). It outlines a comprehensive, long-term approach to improve riverine and floodplain ecosystems, and provides guidance on how multi-benefit projects can provide ecological benefits while protecting public safety.

The draft document and Appendix L are now available on DWR's website at: http://www.water.ca.gov/conservationstrategy/cs_new.cfm. Additional appendices are undergoing final internal DWR review; they will be posted on the same website as they are available. Upon posting all related appendices, DWR will announce a comment due date to allow a full 60-day review period for the document and appendices. However, you may submit comments on posted documents starting January 26, 2015.

A review guidance document is also available on the website; we strongly recommend that you refer to this document before beginning your review of the Conservation Strategy.

We look forward to receiving your comments on the Draft Conservation Strategy.
