Sacramento River
A Guide to Recreation and Public Access
Public Access Sites

Find details on hundreds of federal, state, local, and private agency sites located on the Sacramento River. Many have public access while some are conservation lands. Many are accessible via public road while others can only be visited by boat.

Because of its extent, we have divided the Sacramento River into three sections. The northern section covers the area north of Shasta Lake known as the Sacramento Gorge and the section south of Redding to Red Bluff known as Iron Canyon.

South of Red Bluff to Colusa the river flattens out as it bisects the agricultural Sacramento Valley. This area includes the Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge and includes conservation lands that have been recently purchased and are undergoing habitat restoration.

The final section covers lands between Colusa and Suisun Bay, a flat agricultural area that flows through the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Delta.
