A great deal of spatial informaton has been collected on the Sacramento River and is available digitally. The Sacramento River Atlas is available in two formats: GIF, navigateable here, and Adobe Acrobat PDF downloadable from each page. A link will soon be added to allow downloading of GIS (geographical information system) files via FTP.

GIS System
GIS is the marriage of the digital map and the database. Using GIS, it is possible to look at one spatial layer, at many layers or to combine layers to create new maps.

Sacramento River Atlas uses ESRI's ArcGIS Internet Map Server. The base layer contains hundreds of color aerial photographs. We have also included an assortment of thematic map overlays that can be turned on and off.
