The Sacramento River Conservation Area has been divided into four broad reaches: Keswick Dam to Red Bluff, Red Bluff to Chico Landing, Chico Landing to Colusa, and Colusa to Verona. Each of these reaches has unique characteristics, such as extent of native riparian vegetation, geology, levees, etc., that require slightly different priorities for restoration purposes. Each of the four reaches is briefly described below; however, these reaches as well as restoration strategies for each, are discussed in greater detail in the Sacramento River Conservation Area Handbook (Chapters 5-8.)
