Rivers High, Cold, Experts Warn
Robert D. Davila, Sacramento Bee Staff Writer
[2005-05-19]
California rivers will run faster and higher than usual years due to the late spring storms. The storms have brought an increased amount of snowpack in the mountains. The snow will continue to feed larger than usual amounts of water into the streams and rivers as the warmer weather melts the snow.
The higher than usual river levels could last through June.
Reserviours have been forced to increase water releases to reduce the chance of flooding. This has caused the rivers to run higher and colder than they usually do at this time of year.
Officials have warned about the dangers of swift currents and hypothermia in rivers and steams.
