This site is located at River Mile 177-L, approximately 7 miles south of Ord Bend.
This 751 acre unit, located in Butte County, is owned by USFWS. The property consists of 407 acres of non-native grassland, and 168 acres of riparian habitat.
The riparian habitat consists mostly of cottonwood and mixed riparian forests, herbland cover, and some riparian scrub. Special vegetation profiles include a natural succession from wheat cropping into blue elderberry, coyote bush, creeping wild rye, mugwort, and box elder. Special wildlife use includes California quail, multiple bank swallow colonies, and Western yellow-billed cuckoos.
Current Land Use
The 407 acres of non-native grassland are being evaluated for riparian restoration and awaiting funding. This unit is desinated as sactuary and is closed to the public.
