This site is located at River Mile 191-R, approximately 8 miles south of Hamilton City.
Site Description
This 308 acre unit, located in Glenn County, is owned by USFWS. The property has 186 acres of restored riparian habitat, and 122 acres of pre-existing riparian habitat.
Vegetation Wildlife
The pre-existing riparian habitat consists mostly of cottonwood and mixed riparian forests, herbland cover, gravel bar, open water (Sam Slough) and some riparian scrub. Special vegetation profiles include mixed riparian forest and Valley oak/elderberry forest planted in 1991-1992 on the DWR mitigation site adjacent to the Refuge. Special wildlife use includes western pond turtles in Sam Slough, breeding lazuli bunting, Western yellow-billed cuckoo, and blue and black-headed grosbeak.
