Three miles south of Mount Shasta City.

This wildlife area contains two popular river access spots known as Ney Springs and Cantara Loop. Ney Springs is the first access site on the Sacramento River. The fishing access begins where the canyon ends. Provides a good trout fishing location but can sometimes be difficult wading through the water. At this time there is only catch and release fishing. There are some nice geological features, such as springs coming through the canyon rock, which are very interesting. There are some good swimming holes around this area as well as good hiking trails.

Part of the Klamath Mountain Geologic Province.

Mixed conifers, hardwoods and riparian vegetation. Fish species include rainbow trout and brown trout. The common mammals in the area are black bears, black-tailed deer, brown bat, and mule deer.

Shasta-Trinity National Forest

Heading south take the first left possible a few hundred feet from the Box Canyon Dam. Drive approximately a mile and a sign will direct you to take a left, which is the turn off.
