Location Description
The park is on Highway 160 a few miles south of the city of Rio Vista in Sacramento County. The park is located on the lower peninsular extension of Brannan Island, and is surrounded by the Sacramento River on the west, Three Mile Slough on the southeast, and Seven Mile Slough on the northeast
Site Description
The Brannan Island Recreation Area is a group of islands and marshes. The habitat in the area supports many different types of wildlife. The most popular forms of recreation are boating, windsurfing and swimming. There is also great fishing in the region. Area includes a boat launch, multiple docks, swimming and camping areas.
The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Topology Hydrology
The recreation area is located on a chain of islands.
Vegetation Wildlife
The park contains a protected wetland marsh, which provides a habitat for species such as beavers, muskrats, river otter, mink and 76 species of birds. There are also many different types of fish in area, such as striped bass, sturgeon, catfish, bluegill, and perch.
Current Land Use
The park is a high use recreation area as well as a conservation for the wetlands.
